Wilfried was formerly a refugee from Cameroon who moved to France in pursuit of better lands. A child of Congolese descent whose father, Kembo Uba Kembo, was a close friend of Wilfried’s and a former professional football player who even played for Zaire (now the DR Congo) in the 1974 World Cup was adopted by Wilfried. Jires moved to France when he was a small child to attend school and lived with Wilfried, who initially served as his legal guardian until adopting him as his own son.

Ekoko is a former youth international for France and also competes professionally as a striker for the Turkish club Bursaspor. Jires and Kylian consider one another to be brothers, and Jires’ brother even had Ekoko as his first soccer hero.
